Juan de Arellano was the pre-eminent painter of floral still lifes in seventeenth-century Spain. In his vivid paintings, Arellano drew inspiration from both Flemish and Italian artists, especially Daniel Seghers and Mario Nuzzi. Set against a dark background, the flowering bouquet features lush blooms set within a decorative lapis and bronze vase.
