The reference 1680 holds great significance in the history of the Submariner collection. It was introduced in 1967 and remained in production until 1979. This model boasted a water resistance rating of up to 200 meters. Notably, it can be categorized into two main groups, distinguished by their dial design. The earlier batch, produced until 1976, featured a red Submariner script on the dial. In contrast, the later examples had white text.

The present Submariner reference 1680 was manufactured in 1975. With the feet first format, open 6 letters and the aligned "ft", the present example is an Mk V dial. The dial itself is in very charismatic condition and the lumes and hands have aged consistently.
