A popular pet of the imperial household, the Pekinese dog featured on the present snuff bottle serves as a symbol of court life. The recumbent imperial companion was sculpted from exceptional nephrite, or white jade, and features scrolled ears and a bushy tail. A similar bottle was sold in our Hong Kong rooms from the Mary and George Bloch Collection, 25th November 2013, lot 59. See also a similar snuff bottle sold in these rooms from the Joe Grimberg Collection, 14th September 2010, lot 66.
