The elusive Reference 4300 appeared in the Patek Philippe catalogue around 1976.
Its highly unusual and very stylished case is fully decorated on its bezel and band by a rope motif also evoking the ear of wheat.
The quality of the execution is extremely high with the motif perfectly transiting from the bezel to the band in the most natural way.
The case is continued by an articulated tail hold by a bow made in onyx.
Such a work could only have been completed by the highest skilled casemakers and chainists. On its back, the watch bears the stamp JPE for Jean-Pierre Ecoffey.
Mr. Ecoffey produced some of the finest cases and bracelets for Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet or Vacheron Constantin. The quality of its creations are still today considered as unrivaled, even with the modern techniques and technologies. Interestingly, Mr. Hagman spent over 13 years, from 1970 to 1983, working for Mr Ecoffey to master his art of casemaking. As such, he was most probably the head of the case division when this watch was conceived. While the perilous exercise of the main case was carried by JPE, the case back was realised by Atelier Reunis for Patek Philippe.
In addition to its superb case, the watch has a very rare and sought-after coral dial that is highlighted by the patterned hands beautifully matching the decoration of the main case, ensuring a continuity between the different parts of the timepiece.
