modelled with two bears at the handles and another at the base, the other side of the base with a young gunman holding a rifle seated with a sea otter, apparently unmarked

Please note, the cataloguing for this lot has been amended. The attribution has been modified from ‘Russian’ to ‘probably Russian’.

Finding inspiration in the crater-vase form, the surge in popularity of the trompe l'oeil style and the motif of bears, frequently seen in Russian silverware, the present wine cooler showcases a combination of imagery inspired by nature with masterful technique and opulence. Though apparently unmarked, the present cooler resonates with other similar pieces emerging in Russia at the time from known makers.
