Description
SENECA, LUCIUS ANNAEUS. L. Annei Senecae Cordubensis Tragoediae X. Quae non solum scholis, ut vulgo persuasum est, sed etiam in concionibus publicis & de magnis rebus consultantibus, utilissima sunt. Est enim in Tragoedia clarissimè videre quibus modis vel casus, vel fortuna, vel fata instabiles incertasque res humanas versent. Accesserunt ex pervetusto exemplari argumenta. Bound for Marcus Fugger (1529-1597), with the volume's title in large majuscules running up fore-edge and manuscript shelfmark added by a Fugger librarian. The present volume also has the interlaced initials "S.A." on the front pastedown, also found on some other books with Fugger provenance.
8vo (137 x 94 mm). Italic type, 25 lines plus headline. collation: a8 A-Kk8: 272 leaves. 8-line Latin inscription in a seventeenth or eighteenth century hand to front free endpaper, woodcut device to verso of final leaf.
binding: Parisian brown calf (143 x 108 mm), circa 1550, two concentric rectangles formed by broad blind line, gilt fleurons at outer corners of inner frame, in center gilt crowned bi-cephalic eagle, spine with 4 full and 2 half bands, rosettes in compartments, traces of 2 early labels, title in large majuscules running up fore-edge. (Upper board detached, extremities rubbed).
