Like the bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 7 year old, also in this collection, this bottle of Old Weller 7 Year Old was produced by Julian Van Winkle Jr. in the 1970s, after he lost control of his family’s Stitzel-Weller distillery. William Larue Weller, for whom Old Weller is named, was a whiskey merchant in late 19^th-century Louisville who hired a young Julian Van Winkle as a salesman, long before he became known as Pappy. Well into the 20^th century and on into the 21^st, Van Winkle and his descendants, and later the Buffalo Trace distillery, would keep his memory alive with a series of Weller bottlings, including this 7 year old, 107 proof bourbon.
