elongated oval, the lid centered with a chased medallion of a gardener with a flower basket, a dog by her side, with architectural elements in the background, surrounded by a polished gold ground, within chased roses and lemon gold border, the sides and base chased with roundels of trophies of love, gardening or music, divided by pedestals, maker's mark, charge and discharge mark of Julien Alaterre, Paris date letter K for 1773

Nicolas-Augustin Delions was the son of the renowned Paris gold box maker Nicolas Delions who sponsored the former when he became master in 1759. Nicolas-Augustin Delions was active until the late 1770s before passing away in 1785. While his father seems to have specialized in varicolored gold boxes, in alignment with the fashion at the time, the son worked both in varicolored gold and in enamel (see for example a gold and paillon enamel snuff box dated 1776, sold Sotheby's Geneva, 15 November 2022, lot 1208).
