the dark leather body applied with chased gold scrollwork and strapwork, the top inset with a gold-mounted watch movement, signed: J. Weldon, London, numbered 625, the reverse enameled with the coat of arms of August, Margrave of Baden, surmounted with a putto finial, the top shaped as a book case with two hinged silver-foiled crystal doors representing classical figures, opening to reveal two small drawers, each fitted with a glass scent flask with floral stoppers, the front of the secretaire below decorated with a rock-crystal panel of Helios in his chariot, opening to reveal a gold compartment fitted with implements including a silk-backed miniature mirror, a leather-covered rectangular case, a folding knife, tweezers, a gold spoon, etc., all resting on scrolling feet, all surrounded in fitted leather presentation case
