This book-shaped snuff box with a finely enameled spine was made during the last of the many business partnerships that the famous Geneva bijoutier Jean George Rémond had formed throughout his prolific career. The firm of Rémond, Lamy, Mercier & Co was formed on 1 August 1811 but confusingly continued to use the IGRC lozenge mark registered by the firm in 1806 and in 1815. Like Rémond, Jean Noé Lamy was also born and trained in Hanau before moving to Geneva. Although this last company of Rémond was not officially ended until 1820, it must have stopped earlier because Rémond decided to retire in Hanau in 1818, applying for a passport from Geneva to the city in Hesse (Ian White and Julia Clarke, The Majesty of the Chinese Market Watch, London, 2019, p. 77).
