Edo period, 17^th - 18^th century

the six-plate russet iron bowl of zunari [head-shaped] form with zaboshi [seated rivets] and raised ridges, the apex comprising of plates to form a stylised chrysanthemum head and applied with a crow feather plume, hammered russet iron mabisashi [peak] with furrowed brow well rendered, red lacquer fukigaeshi [turnbacks] decorated in gold hiramaki-e with wa mon [ring crests], four-tiered red lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with spaced lacing in dark blue braid, gold lacquer interior, accompanied with a modern wood helmet box

The bowl to peak: 25 cm., 9⅞ in.

The shikoro to peak: 30 cm., 11¾ in.

Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Material], issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon Kai [Society for the Preservation of Japanese Armour], dated Reiwa 3 (2021).
