The present work is a study for a much larger version painted in 1909, previously held in the collection of Frédéric Lung and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Algériens et Orientalistes, Algiers and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1910 (Koudir Benchikou and Denise Brahimi, La vie et œuvre de Etienne Dinet, catalogue raisonné, Paris, 1984, cat. no. 120, p. 189).
