This panorama is closely related to two compositions by the Italian-German painter Luigi Mayer (1755-1803), in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Metropolitan Museum, New York, respectively. The former, a print after a watercolour, is a view of the town of Foua, and almost identical to the left half of the present work; while the latter, a watercolour, depicts the domed tombs at Rosetta seen on the right. It is likely, therefore, that the painter of the present work based his composition on Mayer’s views.
