A Continental silver-hilt small-sword, circa 1790
with tapering blade formed in two stages, the upper section of flattened-hexagonal section and the forte flattened, stamped with a decorative star and decorated with engraved scrollwork, silver hilt cast and chased with rococo scrolls and shells in low relief against a punched ground, comprising boatshell-guard, a pair of scrolling quillons stamped 'Cesat' and with a further brief inscription on one side, knuckle-guard, near spherical pommel and integral grip decorated en suite, in tooled leather scabbard with silver chape and locket, the latter with scallop-shell button
