Umkreis von Lorenzo Vaccaro
Italien, wohl Neapel, circa 1700
Figur eines Schutzengels, wohl als Salzgefäß entworfen
While the technique and overall style of the sculpture relates to the work of the baroque Neapolitan sculptor Lorenzo Vaccaro, the model seems to derive from the Angelo Custode (Guardian Angel) by his father Domenico Antonio Vaccaro (1678-1745), which is in the San Paolo church in Naples. The Angel similarly stands next to a putto or child figure and raises one arm. The swaying garment and curling hair of the angel reflect the baroque spirit that invigorated Naples circa 1700.
