Though Van Loo is perhaps best known for his more scientific 'portraits' of individual varieties of hyacinths, he also made complete still life watercolors, some very finished and others, like this one, rather sketchy in handling.  A very comparable drawing is in the Rijksmuseum (inv. RP-T-1928-84).
