John Constable (1776–1837) was born in East Bergholt, a picturesque village in the heart of Dedham Vale, on the Essex-Suffolk border. During his lifetime, he painted so many scenes from the Stour Valley around Dedham Vale that this part of England has come to be known as 'Constable Country'.
