The launch of the 5 digit reference Daytona in 1988 is arguably the most significant evolution of the model over its 60 years history.
It marked the introduction of the automatic movement, replacing the manual winding Valjoux era.
The watch was completely redesigned and was fitted with the new caliber 4030 based on the Zenith El Primero movement.
The 165XX also paved to way to an enlarged offering with more metals, bracelets, dials and precious stones combinations for each client to find his or her perfect Daytona.
The current Reference 16518 example is the perfect watch to wear on any occasion. It has a very strong sport character with its yellow gold case housing a black dial with champagne subsidiary dials echoing the precious metal and the indexes. The overall look is nicely balanced by the elegant touch brought by the black leather strap, completing the most attractive black and gilt colour-scheme of the watch.
