Rooted in Gérald Genta's original Royal Oak design, the Offshore has become one of the most celebrated members of Audemars Piguet's repertoire. Among the different variations of Offshores, special editions never fail to attract the attention of watch enthusiasts.
This is the case with the present lot, the 'Ginza 7', exclusively developed in 2011 for Audemars Piguet's boutique in Tokyo to support the brand's initiative to provide help to those affected by the severe earthquake and tsunami in Japan, with ten percent of the sales of this limited edition going towards it.
Limited to 200 pieces, the watch was either available in stainless steel or in carbon fibre, the present lot being the second variation. Besides the engravings on the case back stating the limited edition of the series and 'Ginza' designation, these rare watches are characterised by dials that include a diamond-set 7, the subtle but extremely elegant pink gold in the surrounds of the subdials and the absence of Audemars Piguet's signature tapisserie. The lot thus presents a rare and unique opportunity to acquire a charismatic piece.
