Three talismanic pendants


silver, agate

two of silver mounted agate, one silver mounted hardstone, one with the back engraved: P.M. / 12. VIII. 97. / Bruckfischer, with three modern bespoke stands

30 to 42mm., 1¼ to 1½in.

the stands: 13cm., 5in.

Since classical times it was believed that agate would protect the wearer. Indeed Pliny described how it would protect against spiders, scorpions and tempestuous weather.
