Description

rectangular, the opaque white enamel ground decorated with applied openwork scrolling and floral ornaments centred with faceted garnets, the lid with a central oval white enamel plaque within stamped zig-zag and rope-twist and frames opening to reveal a small singing bird applied with hummingbird feathers and a metal beak, surrounded by a pierced scrollwork grille, a bird-shaped pulling lever to front right corner, the sides of the top also decorated with an opaque white enamel ground applied with partially chased husk and floral scrolls above pearl-centred flowers and a ruby, the corners engraved with scrollwork, on a similarly-decorated stepped base with zig-zag engraving and jewelled foliage in high relief including applied cornucopiae, the key compartment formed as a central drawer with a half circle handle, lined in red velvet and containing the bird-shaped winding key, protruding feet and wood base, London import marks for 1977,
