the cover chased with a trophy of music in oval frame hung from a ribbon-bow, the base with a harvest trophy, the sides with four trophies of love and music, bordered with leaf-wrapped rods, all on matted and polished grounds, marked on base, side and cover, with discharge on the rim

A gold box by Margeurit chased with similar Arts of Peace, Paris, 1772, is illustrated in A. Kenneth Snowman, Eighteenth Century Gold Boxes of Europe, 1996, pl. 386, from the collection of Mrs. John Hay Whitney.
Pierre-Francois Royer was apprenticed in 1744, master in 1758, and sponsored by Jean Lequin. Most of his career was at Quai Pelletier. He was garde in 1770 and 1771, in 1784, he became 3rd grand-garde, and in 1785 premier grand-garde. He died the same year at Quai Pelletier.
