Denis Genty worked as both a cabinetmaker in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine and a retailer in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, selling both his and the work of other ébénistes including RVLC, Macret and Dautriche.
A virtually identical commode stamped by Genty of the same dimensions, design and materials and with only very slight variations to the gilt bronze border mounts on the front, possibly conceived as a pair to the present lot, was sold Sotheby's New York, May 7, 1983, lot 174.
