Inscribed by the author: "Thomas Hardy Esq from Wilfred Wilson Gibson 1920" and with the recipient's bookplate. One of the pre-war “Dymock poets” (alongside Robert Frost, Edward Thomas, John Drinkwater and Rupert Brooke), Gibson had poor eyesight, but served as a private in clerical roles during the war.
