A good copy of the editio princeps of Procopius's History of theWars and Buildings, though without his better known Secret History, which had not yet been discovered. Procopius is the main and sometimes only source for this period; the Buildings (dated to c. 560 AD) describes Justinian's rebuilding of towns and frontiers, and the History of the Wars recounts the campaigns of Justin and Justinian up to c. 553/4.
