Minnie Wilcox Hancock, or by her Yokuts name Waysheemlet, was a basketweaver of the Wukchumni Yokuts, and is considered one of the most skilled artists of the ‘florescence’ of California Basin basket-making tradition. Her designs include depictions of stylized human figures, animals, and spirits; the depiction of a spirit figure on the present bowl was perhaps influenced by Apache designs and is bounded by classic Yokuts black-bounded red yucca root fields.
