Guiseppe Benetti, born in Genoa, studied at the Academia Lingustica di Belli Arti from 1844 until 1852. He received notable commissions for the city of Genoa, including a sculptural group of Adam and Eve for the Basilica of Santa Maria Immacolata as well as several funerary monuments. The present marble is characterised by Benetti's signature realistic style with a skillfully carved textured surface. The detailed bark of the tree, the flamboyantly draping of her dress and smoothly polished skin contrast beautifully.
