Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau

Auguste was the third son of the painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau and, like his brothers Mathurin and Hippolyte, he became a prolific sculptor of decorative mythological and pastoral compositions. This seated figure of a young women reading evokes a sense of innocence, skillfully rendered by the sculptor. Auguste carved several marbles of this model, including one example which is in the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.
