A sculptor-entrepreneur, Godet is known to have cast some of his own work and produced brochures publicising the wide range of his œuvre. He was a pupil of Mathurin Moreau and made his debut at the Salon in 1883. This beautiful model of the god of Love embracing his lover, Psyche, relates to another model by the sculptor, Le Ravissement de Psyché, which was inspired by the painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
