For this auction and to celebrate the significance of The Timeless Whisky Collection, Sotheby’s commissioned a bespoke display platform made of Burr Elm by Anselm Fraser Design. The wood itself is from a Scottish Elm tree which fell at the beginning of the 1980s, and had been used as the bar top in a private residence in Scotland for the last 2 decades before being reclaimed and re-designed for this collection.

The lot is also supported by Lalique themselves, who will offer a unique experience to the winning bidder and their guest to stay at Villa Rene Lalique in Alsace and dine at their 2 Michelin Star restaurant.

Bespoke Burr Elm Platform

From Anselm Fraser Design, this Burr Elm platform was upcycled after being reclaimed from a bar top previously in a private residence on the East Coast of Scotland. The raw material, Elm, is extremely scarce in Scotland due to the onset of Dutch Elm disease in the 1980s. This piece of Elm was chosen to pair with The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection due to its ornate burring, which compliments the extravagance of the crystal bottle designs.

This piece was cut down to the perfect size to display the six decanters, stained to match the brilliance of the sherried liquid within and the raw edges scorched in homage to the charred sherry casks used at The Macallan Distillery to mature these whiskies.

For this lot, Lalique themselves have been so kind as to offer an exclusive experience to the winning bidder of this lot and 3 of their guests. The experience includes a night at Villa René Lalique in Alsace with a tour of the museum and a meal in their 2 Michelin Star restaurant
