The Property of a European Collector

A so-fukurin suji-bachi kabuto [helmet with raised ridges] 

Edo period, 17th century


the black lacquered sixty-two plate iron bowl with raised ridges and central shinodare [ornamental strip], terminating in a five-stage silvered and copper-gilt tehen kanamono, fitted with copper-gilt so-fukurin [ornamental border] and igaki [small metal plates to the base] pierced with inome [boar's eye] openings, black lacquer mabisashi [peak], the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] decorated in gold hiramaki-e with tomoe mon [tomoe shaped crests], four-tiered black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with kebiki odoshi [close-laced] in blue braid 


The bowl to peak: 27.8 cm., 10⅞ in.

The shikoro to peak: 33.5 cm., 13⅜ in.
