A hoshi-bachi [helmet with standing rivets]
Edo period, 17th century
the Saotome school sixty-two plate iron bowl with standing rivets, terminating in a five-stage silvered, shakudo and patinated iron tehen kanamono, the iron mabisashi [peak] with hammered brow, small black lacquer fukigaeshi [turnbacks] with copper-gilt fukurin [ornamental border], black lacquered leater five-tiered itamono Hineno-jikoro [solid plate close-fitting neck-guard] with sugake odoshi [spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, the gold and black lacquered maedate [forecrest] in the form of a karashishi, this lot has an accompanying wood stand, but not the one illustrated in the photographs
