The movement is in working condition at the time of cataloguing. The dial is intact and is a lovely off-white ivory colour. There is a minor loss to the 'O' in 'Laino'. There is some minor discolouration between the numerals. The case is in very nice condition with thick lugs and proportions. There is a very strong hallmark to the lugs at 6 o'clock. The case back is bearing the S&L 18k stamp and is very easy to read. The PP crown is original. Overall a highly charismatic example of a reference 2526.

Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. You are advised that watch straps or bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator or crocodile) are not sold with the watch and we reserve the right to remove these straps or bands prior to shipping. Furthermore, the watch may not come with its original manufacturers strap or band.

Patek Philippe’s first automatic wristwatch, the legendary reference 2526, was introduced to the market in 1953 . Produced predominantly in yellow gold, with a small number made in pink gold and white gold, and an even smaller batch made in platinum. The present example cased in pink gold is retailed by Serpico y Laino, Caracas and is especially sought after today.

The enamel dial is a lovely off white or tinted Willis as the English say, featuring the exclusive Serpico Y Laino retailer signature in the subsidiary dial for constant seconds. Additionally, the case back is stamped ‘S.&L.’ remains crisp and legible. With strong hallmarks and original PP crown, the present watch is a highly charismatic example of a reference 2526.
