Description

Valentine Bartholomew

A selection of flowers adapted principally for students. London: R. Ackermann, 1822

Small folio (365 x 265mm.), lithographed title with overslip giving Ackermann imprint, 35 hand-coloured lithographed plates (only, of 36, see note), contemporary green half morocco, title repaired, minor worming at end, upper cover loose; sold as a collection of plates

Nissen, Great Flower Books, and Dunthorne call for 24 plates; a previous Sotheby’s expert has crossed this out in each case and indicated that there should be 36 plates. The present copy comprises a lithographed title marked “No. 2” (presumably from an original part), and 35 plates. The Ackermann overslip on the title covers the original imprint which according to Nissen is Rodwell and Martin, J. Dickinson.
