Lévy-Dhurmer came from a Jewish family in Algiers and began his artistic studies in Paris, where he worked as a lithographer. In the 1890s, Lévy-Dhurmer turned to painting and came into contact with artists linked to the Symbolist movement, such as Alphonse Osbert, Alexandre Séon and Carlos Schwabe. The Galerie Georges Petit organized an exhibition of his works in 1896, sealing his reputation. His success continued throughout his life. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris devoted a retrospective exhibition to him in 1952, a year before his death.

Issu d'une famille juive d'Alger, Lévy-Dhurmer commence ses études artistiques à Paris et travaille comme lithographe. Dans les années 1890, Lévy-Dhurmer se tourne vers la peinture et se rapproche d'artistes liés au mouvement symboliste comme Alphonse Osbert, Alexandre Séon ou encore Carlos Schwabe. La Galerie Georges Petit organise une exposition de ses œuvres en 1896 asseyant ainsi sa réputation. Il connaîtra le succès jusqu’à la fin de sa vie. Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris lui consacre une exposition rétrospective en 1952, un an avant sa mort.
