Composed of a snake link chain suspending five gem-set pendants, each designed as a radiating sun motif, modelled on the Lothian crest, set with mixed-cut rubies, sapphires, garnets and cabochon amethysts, moonstones and rose diamonds, all with locket reverse, length approximately 390mm, four small stones deficient

Mounted in gold, abrasions commensurate with age and wear, four small moonstones deficient from one sun pendant, all stones with abrasions to facet edges. All sun pendants with locket backs but with glazed lockets now deficient. Ruby and diamond sun pendant with later suspension loop soldered to bottom. Four sun pendants with inscriptions to reverse from left to right from amethyst pendant: June 4 1836 11 Aug 1833 2 Dec 1833 Jan 23 1835

The stylised sun motifs employed on the present necklace are perhaps a reference to the Lothian crest of the family armorial bearings which depicts a sun in splendour.
