ENGRAVED

T.A. Prior (before the deletion of Lady de la Beche, see Note).

An old inscription on the reverse reads: 'This picture of General H. Wyndham's hounds was painted in 1837. The hounds away from Raffling Wood and the landscape is very faithful to nature. Lady de la Beche was on the horse in front of General Wyndham but on their separation, she was painted out and Lord William Osborne put in her place. The other prominent figure is Mr John Napper of Ifold who hunted all his life afterwards with my father's hounds. Mr Graham Smith is also in the background.'
