Gaudenzio Marconi was an Italian photographer active in Paris in the later 1860s and 1870s who specialized in making academic nude studies for sculptors and painters at the École des beaux-arts. Artists and students sketched from these images when live models were not available. Marconi's work documents poses traditionally used by academic studios and illustrates the developing association between photographers and painters during the second half of the 19th century.
