Marin commonly revisited his undated Weehawken paintings several years after completion and assigned dates retroactively, oftentimes erroneously. The present work is dated 1903-1904 on the reverse, but more recent research confirms this painting to be apart of the artist's second Weehawken series, with an approximate date of 1916.
