Andacht (Devotion)
gouache, pastel and pencil on paper
56.1 by 76.4cm., 22⅛ by 30in.
Framed: 76.5 by 98cm., 30⅛ by 38⅝in.
Executed circa 1909.
Executed on a full sheet of cream wove paper, not laid down and attached to the mount at each corner. There are three artist's pinholes to the upper left corner and an artist's pinhole to the lower left, upper right and lower right corners. The sheet is slightly undulating. There is a small loss to the lower left corner as well as a small tear and a flattened crease towards the corner of the lower left edge. There is a small loss to the dark green pigment towards the upper left edge and a few tiny flecks of paint loss to the white houses. There are a few small scuffs and surface accretions in places to the sheet. The sheet is slightly time-stained and there are some spots of foxing in places only visible on the verso. The colours have retained a wonderful vibrancy. This work is in overall very good condition.
