Portrait d'André Pieyre de Mandiargues au grand col de léopard

signed Leonor Fini (lower right)

oil on canvas

33.3 by 22cm., 13⅛ by 8⅝in.

Framed: 45.9 by 34.6cm., 18 by 13⅝in.

Painted in 1938-42.

The canvas is not lined. Inspection under UV light reveals a milky, and in places uneven, varnish through which UV light cannot fully penetrate. There are some tiny spots of retouching to the extreme edges, including a small line (approx. 1cm) to the centre of the lower edge. There is some frame abrasion with associated pigment loss to all four edges. There is a pin sized loss to the collar of the sitter in the upper right quadrant and two small scuffs with some minor paint loss in the yellow pigment. There are some surface accretions and very fine lines of craquelure only visible under close inspection. This work is in overall good condition.
