Matinée à Arcachon
signed Bonnard (lower right)
oil on canvas
55.4 by 65.4cm., 21¾ by 25¾in.
Framed: 76.5 by 87.5cm., 30⅛ by 34½in.
Painted circa 1930.
The canvas is not lined. Inspection under UV light reveals two tiny spots of retouching to the right part of the white sail and a further few possible tiny and very sensitively-executed retouchings that relate to some of the lines of craquelure in the sky. There are some fine lines of craquelure in places, most visible in the upper half of the painting. There is a pin-sized hole below the artist's signature, some frame rubbing with associated tiny losses in places along the extreme edges, and a few small surface accretions. This work is in overall good condition.
