Still Life with Tiger Moth

signed C. MORRIS C.M. (lower left)

oil on board

unframed: 38.5 by 29.5cm.; 15¼ by 11½in.

framed: 57.5 by 48cm.; 22½ by 19in.

The work appears structurally sound. The board is affixed to a secondary backing board. The board is slightly uneven to the lower left corner. Overall the work appears to be in generally very good condition.

There are a few Artist pinholes to the corners and further to the centre of the edges. There is a tiny area of loss to the centre upper edge, and one or two further pinsized losses to the extreme edges. There is some very fine linear craquelure in places, most notable in the extreme right pink flower, with a further line which corresponds with the grain of the board to the centre of the lower edge which is lifting slightly. There is surface dust particularly to the impasto tips and some light surface dust.

When inspected under UV light, there are pigments which fluoresce but these appear to be the hand of the Artist.

The work is presented in a painted wooden frame.
