Still Life Nasturtiums and Pears

oil on canvas

unframed: 41 by 66cm.; 16¼ by 26in.

framed: 54.5 by 79.5cm; 21½ by 31¼in.

Executed in 1952.

The work appears sound. The canvas has been relined. Overall the work appears to be in generally good overall condition. There is frame abrasion with associated rubbing and loss to the extreme edges and corners, not visible in the present frame. There is some minor craquelure in places, with a few tiny flecks of loss, most notable to the centre green flower. There is some flattening to one or two impasto tips. There is some slight discolouration to the varnish. There is some surface light surface dust in places. When examined under UV light, there appear to be some scattered isolated areas of retouching in places, with the largest area being above the plum in the lower left corner. The work is presented in a painted wooden frame, with a canvas inset.
