Acquired directly from the Artist by the father of the present owner circa 1961 and thence by descent

Forget Me Not is a new painting to emerge in public by Peter Lanyon, having been acquired directly from the artist after it was painted in 1961 and remained in a family private collection. The original owner was one of the founders of Troika Pottery in St Ives and befriended Lanyon in the 50s.

The subject is Britt Saether, a model drawn by many St Ives artists at the time. She was an important 'muse' and an inspiration for some important larger canvases by Lanyon such as his 1961 Beach Girl (National Museum Wales, Cardiff). Typical of Lanyon, we see the artist blur the boundaries between abstraction, figuration and landscape - an aesthetic approach which defined his celebrated career.
