See Pope-Hennessy, Italian Sculpture in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London 1964, no. 676 for a discussion of an example of the very closely related group of alabasters of the Virgin and Child at the church of the Annunziata at Trapani, which in turn probably derive from a lost prototype by Nino Pisano.  Similar examples were sold in these rooms on 4 December 1982, lot 48, and 11 January 1994, lot 168.
