Les Quatre Poires

signé des initiales ROC et daté '03 (en bas à droite) ; estampillé atelier O'CONOR (au revers) et titré (sur une étiquette attachée au châssis)

huile sur toile

san cadre: 55 by 46cm.; 21½ by 18in.

avec cadre: 76 by 68cm.; 30 by 26¾in.

Exécuté en 1903.

Original canvas. There is a small dent to the canvas in the upper left corner, which corresponds to an apparently inherent irregularity in the stretcher bar. There is a tiny hole measuring less than 1/2cm in the upper left corner and a faint central stretcher bar mark. There is some frame abrasion along the left and right edges and some frame paint to one or two spots along the upper edge. There are some areas of minor craquelure to isolated spots, including in the background, to the glass jug, pears and cloth, only visible upon close inspection. The surface is dirty. Otherwise the work is in generally good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals one or two flecks of retouching in the lower left quadrant. There appears to be an uneven varnish, notably in the background, which makes the reading difficult to read. Held in a gilt plaster frame with a canvas inset.
