Launched in 1967, reference 1680 was the first Submariner to feature a date function and cyclopes magnifier to the crystal. As a tool watch, the vast majority were made in stainless steel, with only a handful produced each year in 18k yellow gold. At the time, reference 1680 was the only mainstream luxury divers watch produced in solid gold.
