Often considered Patek Philippe’s quintessential automatic perpetual calendar, reference 3940 was in manufactured between 1985 and 2007. It was indeed a world's first as an automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch.

Exceptionally, this 3940 produced in 2015, is part of a limited edition of watches that Patek Philippe released and exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London to celebrate its 175th anniversary. For the occasion, Patek Philippe combined new old stock cases with dial colours never seen before in the references and even using different dial layouts, in this case that identical to the reference 5140.

The fascination and mystery of this limited edition has led to much speculation among experts who estimate the production amounts to as few as 5 examples for each dial variation.  This is therefore an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire a very special edition of a very special, and historically important, Patek Philippe.
