The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic watches in the world with the richest history. It may be hard to believe today that Submariners were not given a date window until 1969, 16 years after the first Submariner and indeed 2 years after the first Sea-dweller. The very first generation of Submariners that features a date window is the reference 1680. Like preceding references, the reference 1680 features a 40 mm stainless steel case, a stainless steel Oyster bracelet, and a black dive bezel. The presence of the date window on the dial also meant that the crystal above it now had a Cyclops magnification lens affixed to it. The automatic movement used to power the Submariner 1680 is the caliber 1575, which is similar to the caliber 1570 with a date module.
